Understanding the Spotify connection Follow
Understanding how Spotify allow apps like MOWL® to communicate with the Spotify App, can give a better insight into "who do what" and where to look if something fails.
The first thing that are important is to understand that MOWL® does not control or play the music. That is all handled by Spotify in the Spotify App. The communication happens between the MOWL® and Spotify servers and not by direct communication between the apps.
The communication flow looks like this:
-
You connect your Spotify account
In the MOWL® App, you login with Spotify and give permission to access your music (via Spotify).
-
MOWL® talks to the Spotify API
MOWL® uses the access token to send requests to the Spotify API (e.g. search for tracks, get playlists or control playback).
-
Spotify handles the request
The Spotify API processes the request (e.g. find a track, start playback, skip, set the volumen) and communicates with the Spotify app on your device.
-
Music plays in the Spotify app
The Spotify app on your device plays the music
Important
When you start a workout in the MOWL® App, we send a request to the Spotify API (step 2 above). From that point in time your workout will run in the MOWL® App and the music in the Spotify App. Unless you PAUSE or JUMP in the workout, there is no communication until the workout is done.
If the workout runs without problems in the MOWL® App but you experience issue with the playback of the music (e.g. the music pauses, loops, is delayed, play a wrong song, plays in a wrong order) then it is not caused by the MOWL® App and you need to troubleshoot the issue in the Spotify App or within their community.
